Judge Richard T. Standridge Announces Retirement

Judge Richard T. Standridge of Division 25 has announced that he will retire on June 1, 2020 after serving almost 27 years with the Jackson County Circuit Court.  Standridge was appointed as an associate circuit judge by Governor Mel Carnahan on June 18, 1993.   A lot has changed with technology since that time.  “When I first came onto the bench, I bought a computer, and was the first judge in the courthouse to have a computer on their desk,” said Standridge.   In 1997, Standridge was known throughout the state and beyond for posting court rules on the Internet on his site called, “Court Rules Central.”  He posted local court rules, Missouri Supreme Court Rules and federal rules when the Internet was not widely used.  He received inquiries throughout the world regarding those rules from embassies, the U.S. Department of Justice and the military.  “Former Chief Justice Duane Benton stopped me at a CLE once, and asked if the Missouri Supreme Court could link to the site,” Standridge said.  “If they had inquiries about rules at the time, they told people to contact me.”  He maintained the site from 1997 to 2003 until it was no longer needed as the Internet gained usage in society and throughout the judicial system.  “For 27 years, Judge Standridge has consistently served the citizens of Jackson County, combining his legal knowledge and dedication as a judicial officer with his inherent compassion and fundamental fairness,” said Presiding Judge David M. Byrn. “His experience and knowledge have benefited the Court in countless ways and he will truly be missed.”  Before becoming a judge, Standridge worked in private practice in the area of commercial transactions and banking.  He was with the law firms of Copilevitz, Bryant, Gray and Jennings, and also with Buck, Bohm and Stein.  He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City Law School in 1980.  As he retires, Standridge said he will miss the people he has worked with including other judges and staff.  “We have some really great people and it has been a real joy.”
